The breath-taking new album Golden Planet Sky by The Coral Sea explores singer-songwriter Rey Villalobos’ experiences of heartache and life’s crippling highs and lows. A restless and nostalgic album laced with introspection and stirring passion, it presents an invigorating dose of groovy distorted electricity steepened in epic tension and dark angst through a vibrant array of steady punchy drum beats, rumbling bass lines, and ringing and rattling guitar riffs, whilst urgent, aching breathless vocals shrouded in haunted echoes long and croon in tense emotional abandon. There's a hazy impression of a velvet saxophone and the weightlessness of the last moments of a love affair, when it feels like the end but we don't want to admit it yet. "It’s like being in the middle of a storm, a love storm but you’re sticking around to weather out the storm and see if skies will clear.
