Childs

Born in Ensenada (1981, Mexico), producer, guitarist and songwriter Paul Marron started this musical project back in 2001, after locally having released electronic music with the moniker "Rade" which would set the basis for a more ambitious collaborative effort that would become Childs.

With the objective of making music that made a connection with the dream world, Paul was inspired by anime aesthetics, dreampop, IDM, shoegaze and post-rock to release two EP's ("Childs" in 2002 and "Reki" in 2003) before finally finished producing 2006's "Yui" under one of Mexico's most prestigious and renowned electronic independent labels, Static Discos, home of international artist Murcof which helped by mastering and adding some post-production details to some of the tracks of this album. This epic full lenght was distributed by Noise Kontrol in Mexico and worldwide by Darla Records who has made 2 further pressings of the CD.

"Electronic lullabies" was the term picked of the resulting genre after the soft mélange of digital, analog and acoustic sounds that were made during late nights which was the preferred time of writing and producing such songs. It has also been described as “bedroom blues” by british journalist Eamonn Clements.

Since the start of the project, Paul started inviting musicians for the live assistence in an effort to always try to have an ensamble playing the music for a more intense experience. Guillermo Batiz was one of the first that joined Childs aiding with live effects and post-production duties, playing the omnichord and keyboards, designing visual art like T-shirts and stickers, as well as helping craft some concepts like the title for the song "Marysal", which was from a poem he wrote. In 2009 he left the project to pursue a new life traveling all the way to Australia where he currently resides and continues to work on his own musical ventures: On The Second Day and Beasty Godiva.

In the same year, singers/guitarists Menio Brown and Rafa Olivarria formally joined and participated with arrangements for "Realidal", Childs second album released in 2015 by the new eclectic and independent label Ducado Records and was mastered by Dave Cooley in Elysian Masters who also did the same work for artists such as M83, Liars, Prefuse 73 to name a few. This second album had a more extense list of collaborators: Argel Cota and Jesus "Baqui" Neri on drums, Karla Alcocer on violins, Nicolas Pradilla on bass ideas, Alex Mistero on guitar and longtime associate songstress Susana Liceaga, which was the voice behind Mariana's ethereal voices.

In 2018 chinese label Pocket Records released "Yui" in vinyl and was remastered in Chicago Mastering Service by Bob Wenston

Childs current lineup features Jesus Neri (drums and sampler), Karla Alcocer (violin, melodica, omnichord and voices), Cesar Beltran (bass, keyboards and voices) and Paul (Guitar, keyboard, melodica and voices) and they are finishing recording their third album which will be out in 2021.
